Cody Wamsley, CISSP

Cody Wamsley is a partner in Sterlington’s Cybersecurity, Data Privacy and Intellectual Property practices. Prior to joining Sterlington, Cody served in senior in-house roles at leading global institutions including Associate General Counsel at Coinbase, the largest crypto exchange in the U.S., where he counseled the enterprise on security and privacy issues for Web3 fintech applications. He previously held senior in-house roles at Oracle, American Express, and 3M. Cody’s law firm experience includes several years helping to build Dorsey & Whitney’s international Cybersecurity & Privacy practice.

He has extensive technology law experience that includes leading international incident response programs and incident investigations, negotiating and drafting technology contracts and M&A deals, overseeing third party risk, building internal security and privacy programs, serving as lead product counsel for SaaS and artificial intelligence applications, and working directly with technical teams to assess risks and build practical solutions to launch new products and services.


In the Intellectual Property arena, he has experience consulting and leading many IP initiatives, including harvesting and protection efforts, prosecuting patent and trademark applications, overseeing open source governance, and conducting IP valuations.

He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - United States (CIPP/US), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and a Registered Patent Attorney. Cody is a leader and regular speaker on global information security and privacy issues, having served as the President of the Information Systems Security Association’s (ISSA) Phoenix Chapter, contributed to the development of NIST’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Frameworks, and was the Chief Product Owner for a threat intelligence automation module for a cybersecurity security operations orchestration platform.

Cody earned an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from the George Washington University Law School and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law with a Media, Law, and Policy Certificate. He received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Kansas.
